Arlington aims for future Breeders' Cup

The Illinois Racing Board discovered Monday that one confused yearonly can lead to another. On the deadline for Illinois tracks to filedates applications to run in 2001, the IRB was served notice that:

Newly allied Arlington no longer wants Mother's Day but does wantalmost all of October as a possible prelude to a 2002 Breeders' Cup.

An upgraded Hawthorne wants to become a player-again-in summertimeharness racing.

The National Jockey Club wants another chance to get a springflat meet right at its Sportsman's Park/ Chicago Motor Speedway.

The Balmoral-Maywood consortium again wants it all in Illinoisharness racing.
